The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has seen a surge in support on social media in Berlin. On Facebook, the AfD Berlin Landesverband has garnered 4,741 "likes" with 150 people "talking about this." This represents a significant increase from the party's previous social media presence in the city.

Rising Political Prominence

The AfD's growing social media presence parallels its recent electoral success in Berlin. In the 2021 Berlin state election, the AfD secured 10.9% of the vote, entering the Berlin House of Representatives with 36 seats. This marked the first time the AfD has entered a state parliament in the former East Germany.

The AfD's surge in popularity in Berlin is attributed to a combination of factors, including growing dissatisfaction with the established political parties, concerns over immigration and social cohesion, and the party's populist appeals to voters.
